Spokane Area Summer Youth Employment Program
Updates
Spokane’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) officially ended on September 30, 2009. As you will see in the final newsletter, NEWSLETTER3_SEPT.pdf, the program was a huge success! Made possible by a one-time grant under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Spokane’s summer youth program provided over 450 at-risk youth the opportunity to participate in paid work experiences and learn invaluable workplace and safety skills.
As for next year, we hope a funding mechanism will be created that allows youth to participate in summer work experiences next summer and for years to come.
To learn more about this fantastic program please view the SYEP documentary at http://www.nextgenzone.org/news3.html.

Washington State 4-H sponsors a statewide leadership training for teens, June 29-30th, 2009. It would be an opportunity to complete the training necessary for this grant. Our conference focuses on educational choices, career exploration and life skill development as youth move forwards to a positive future. If you are interested in finding out more information please contact Jan Klein, State 4-H Teen Specialist, in Spokane at jlklein@wsu.edu or 509-220-7900.
